Nacho Cheese Fries: Taco Bell's Improvement of French Fries

By Ellie Drabnis on February 26, 2018

It’s late in the evening or maybe even later than that and, you want some fries… depending on what you’d like with those fries the go-to locations would be: McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendy’s…right?

Well, it’s time to break out of that norm seeing as there are new fries out there that beat the competition.

Taco Bell’s Nacho Cheese Fries are a punch of flavor as well as an improvement over typical french fries.

Taste Test

The Nacho Cheese Fries are available by themselves or, available as part of Taco Bell’s Nacho Fries Box. I went with the latter.

Now, while I was enjoying the other components of the box as well, it was time to pay attention to the fries.

First, I had to try them without the dipping sauce. Sure, the idea is to dip them into the cheese sauce but, I wanted to taste them on their own first.

Without dipping sauce, The Nacho Cheese Fries hold their own.

The flavoring on them stands out and has a little bite to it. The spice mixture offered flavor to the french fries that is anything but typical. These fries were certainly not bland.  I didn’t find them spicy but, they are tasty and had me going back for more.

I enjoyed the fries plain but, now I had to dip them in the cheese sauce.

The nacho cheese dipping sauce further brought out the flavors of the spice mixture on the fries. Adding the cheese sauce only made them tastier.

Reheat Capability?

While the Nacho Cheese Fries are amazing when fresh. There stood the following burning question (no pun intended): How well do they reheat?

And, if reheated, what happens? Will they turn to mush or no?

I had to see for myself with the leftover fries a relative of mine abandoned due to being too full.

Would these fries reheat well? I had to see for myself…

The Nacho Fries reheated in 30 seconds flat. However, microwave strength and thus reheating times may vary. My fries were reheated in an older microwave that lacks a high and low setting.

Post-reheating I found that: the Nacho Fries still held up.

But, upon reheating that ‘bite to them’ in other words, the ‘extra oomph’ of flavor is lost. Even still, the nacho cheese complement stays strong. The flavor of the fries is yet again amplified by being dipped into the nacho cheese sauce. So, not too much was lost while reheating the fries.

Overall…

Taco Bell’s Nacho Cheese Fries are the best fries out there at the moment and, are worth it. Indeed, the combination of nacho cheese and spices are a decadent twist on the typical french fry and an improvement, in general. I will definitely be ordering these again!
